Il Veliero Anacapri production process: Handcrafted ceramic plates, bowl, cups, mugs, tiles and more!
Everything you see on our website is HandcraftedMade in Italyrealized by Il Veliero Anacapri
It starts with clay, that is taked from the earth and skilled hands shape it manually or on a lathe, transforming it into objects which are then left to dry in ventilated rooms for a few weeks.
After this time a first firing is carried out at a temperature above 1652 degrees fahrenheit which makes the objects ready to be glazed, a delicate and important operation, as it gives strength to the ceramic.
Now is the time where the skill and imagination of the decorator creates figures and designs on ceramics using non-toxic colors for food use.
Once the decoration is finished we have to blend the colors with the enamel so the objects must be fired again at more than 1652 degrees fahrenheit, and finally after 12 hours the creations are ready and resistant to high and low temperatures will be available, allowing for example to pass in the microwave or dishwasher.
Let's see together what are the main characteristics to evaluate when choosing real handcrafted ceramics?
Our Italy, the climate and beauty that have always favored artistic expression in all eras, continues to be a hotbed of ideas that the skilled hands of the artisans transform into unique objects and works of art. Choosing an artisanal product means sharing values and appreciating the commitment with which they are conceived and created by the same craftsmen who put their soul into each of their creations.
The first thing to inquire about in order to recognize quality handcrafted ceramics is the origin and above all the name of the manufacturer, these are the first indicators necessary to understand if the ceramic was made in Italy and to be able to trace back with certainty to the manufacturer is certainly an extra guarantee.
What does "materials and objects in contact with food" means?
It means that all materials and objects that come into contact with food, solid or liquid, and it is important to know how their production and marketing is governed by rules and measures both national and European.
The general requirements are governed by the community standard of Regulation (EC) no. 1935/2004, while specific and detailed provisions exist for each type of material.
In pills, the regulation establishes that all objects and materials intended for food use must be produced in compliance with good manufacturing practices and not transfer to food components that could constitute a danger to human health, lead to an unacceptable change in the composition of food or imply a deterioration of the organoleptic characteristics. Based on the new Framework Regulation, the name and address of the manufacturer must be written on the ceramic object that will be used in contact with food. Also, this information must appear on the materials or in the packaging,
